Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation Invites Muralists to Participate in Third Annual Sugar Land Arts Fest

The Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation seeks four accomplished artists to participate as live mural painters during the third annual Sugar Land Arts Fest, on Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th at the Smart Financial Centre Plaza.

“A highlight of the festival, the live mural painting experience enriches the vibrant atmosphere of the event, offering festivalgoers the chance to witness the creation of stunning artwork firsthand,” said Ruth Stubenrouch, Muralist Committee Chair for the Sugar Land Arts Fest.

The four selected muralists will create a 4’ X 8’ vertically oriented mural. They will be required to paint onsite at the festival on Saturday, April 27th, from 9:30 am to 4 pm. Artists must complete their paintings by Sunday, April 28th at 1 pm.

Returning to the 2024 Arts Fest is artist Micaela Perdoma who specializes in mixed medium art.

Each chosen artist will receive a $500 stipend and an additional $150 for supplies. They will also be given an artist lanyard for free entry, free parking and two guest passes to the Arts Fest.

The murals created during the festival will later adorn the lobby of the Smart Financial Center, visible to all who enter the venue’s doors for concerts and events. Last year, the muralists were given the theme of “music” for their inspiration. This year’s theme will also be “Music Inspired Art.”

Those interested in applying can do so via Zapplication, available on the Sugar Land Arts Fest website at www.sugarlandartsfest.com. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, February 29th, 2024, by 11:59 am CST. Applicants must complete an artist profile, a general concept description of their mural (sketches are preferred), three images of previously completed murals and confirm their availability to participate in the live mural painting on Saturday, April 27th.

In addition to the live mural painting, the Sugar Land Arts Fest features non-stop live musical entertainment, a wine and beer garden, cuisine from local restaurants, and a children’s art activity tent. The event, which attracts attendees from Fort Bend and the Greater Houston Area, aims to showcase the diversity and talent of local, regional and international artists.
