Gather up your families and spend time together making special memories to last throughout the year. Richmond and Rosenberg are helping make the holidays special with several spectacular Christmas events in the heart of Brazos. Ho, ho, ho!

Project Noel

200-projectnoelFor more than 40 years, the Richmond State Supported Living Center (RSSLC) has delighted visitors of all ages with Project Noel, a collection of Christmas displays featuring holiday favorites from Santa Claus to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Children who first saw the project blossom in the early 1970s now bring their children and grandchildren to see more than 40 holiday scenes that light up and decorate the 241 acre campus, located at 2100 Preston in Richmond. Lighted displays continue nightly Friday, November 27th through Friday, January 1, 2016. Daily hours are from 6 to 9 pm. There is no admission cost to join this festive, fun family outing.

Santa and his elves will visit with families December 4th through 6th and 11th through 13th from 6 to 9 pm. Give Santa your wish list and have a picture made to remember the wonderful evening. Printed pictures will be available for $5 each – or bring your own camera to capture the memories! Plus, there are photo opportunities all around campus to take pictures with the amazing displays.

Project Noel is provided by the Volunteer Services Council (VSC) of the RSSLC. If your business or group would like to adopt an existing display for refurbishing or create a new display for next season, contact 281-344-4335.

Join the Fort Bend Museum docents on Friday, December 4th and Saturday, December 5th for the annual Candlelight Tours of the 1883 John M. Moore home at 500 Houston Street in Richmond. This year’s theme is To Grandmother’s House We Go: A 1950s-era Moore Family Christmas. “The Moores had grandchildren in the 1950s, so the kids were going to Grandmother’s house,” said Candlelight Tours Chairman Letha Wood.

Guests will experience the sights and sounds of a mid-century Christmas during this year’s tours, and each room in the historic home will be decorated with all of the trimmings of the season. Complimentary wassail and cookies will also be served. Tours will run from 6 to 8 pm on December 4th and from 2 to 8 pm on December 5th.

The annual Candlelight Tours are sponsored by the Fort Bend Museum docents, and all proceeds benefit the educational and preservation efforts of the Fort Bend Museum. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for children. Visit www.fortbendmuseum.org or call 281-342-6478 for more information on the Candlelight Tours.

Then on December 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th, the George Ranch Historical Park will host its annual Campfire Christmas for an unforgettable evening of hearty food, Texas traditions and Christmas cheer on the Ranch, located at 10215 FM 762 in Richmond.

Guests will enjoy a multi-era holiday meal complete with 1930s cowboy music. After dinner, guests will jump back in time to visit a “newly-built” log cabin on Christmas Eve 1825. “Old 300” settlers Henry and Nancy Jones will share what life was like as a Texas pioneer on the wild frontier and will teach visitors about the early Welsh Christmas traditions of their ancestors.

Next, guests will jump forward 44 years to an 1869 campfire as the local cowboys pay a visit. Hot cider and coffee will be served as the conversation turns to the growing systems of sharecropping and cattle drives of the era.

The final stop will be the Davis Victorian Mansion for a festive family Christmas in 1888. “Guests will learn about the changes the family underwent in this critical year – and about special Victorian traditions,” said Director of Programs Krystal Willeby.

Campfire Christmas is recommended for adults and children ages eight and up. Reservations are required and are non-refundable. Tickets are $50 for adults and $45 for children, seniors and groups of 10 or more. For younger children, a special Children’s Campfire Christmas event will be held on Thursday, December 17th at 6 pm and includes a light dinner, Christmas crafts, a hayride through the park and singing Christmas songs around the campfire.
