Child Advocates of Fort Bend Hosts Annual Light of Hope Ceremony to Launch National Child Abuse Prevention Month

Child Advocates of Fort Bend (CAFB) is partnering with the City of Sugar Land to host its Annual Light of Hope Ceremony on Friday, April 4th at Sugar Land Town Square, beginning at 7 PM. This family-friendly event marks the start of National Child Abuse Prevention Month and aims to bring the community together to build awareness around child abuse prevention.

The evening will feature live entertainment by the 1980s cover band The Mojo Faction, games, giveaways and educational booths hosted by CAFB and its partners. Attendees will receive blue lighted rings and Sugar Land Town Square will glow in blue to symbolize the collective commitment to ending child abuse.

While child abuse knows no season, April has been designated National Child Abuse Prevention Month to honor victims and raise awareness of this critical issue. Last year alone, Child Advocates of Fort Bend served 3,448 children and families who experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse or neglect.

Community members are encouraged to participate in this important initiative by:

  • Wearing or distributing blue ribbons to raise awareness.
  • Displaying child abuse prevention materials in public spaces or workplaces.
  • Attending Child Advocates of Fort Bend’s many trainings or the Building Resilient + Trauma Informed Communities Conference on May 8 + 9 and joining in the effort to make Fort Bend a trauma informed community
  • Requesting a speaker from Child Advocates of Fort Bend to educate your group about the signs and prevention of child abuse.

To access information about training sessions, request a speaker or view a list of topics available for presentations, visit www.cafb.org or contact Dana at DMersiovsky@cafb.org.

Join CAFB at the Light of Hope Ceremony as they collectively honor the victims of child abuse, raise awareness and reaffirm our commitment to protecting the children of Fort Bend County. Together, we can create a safer and brighter future for our community’s youth.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, do not hesitate to seek help. Assistance is available through the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400.
