Pink in the Park to Honor BreastCancer Survivors

Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital and the Sugar Land Skeeters will team up to honor breast cancer survivors during Pink in the Park on Friday, May 17th at Constellation Field. The Skeeters take the field at 7:05 pm during the fourth game of a six-game home stand against the Bridgeport Bluefish.

During Pink in the Park, all breast cancer survivors in attendance will receive a special gift and on-field recognition. There will be no doubt that this event focuses on breast cancer as attendees wear pink and the Skeeters’ players wear pink jerseys.  Following the game, an auction of the Skeeters’ jerseys will take place with all proceeds benefiting the new comprehensive Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Breast Care Center scheduled to open in early 2014.

Breast services at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land include digital mammography for screening and diagnostics, including the cutting-edge 3-D breast tomosynthesis. This digital technology can detect smaller breast tumors by eliminating the problem of overlapping breast tissue where potential cancers can hide with traditional mammography. It is particularly beneficial for women with dense or fatty breast tissue.

Other available services include ultrasound-guided breast biopsies, stereotactic needle biopsies and fine-needle aspirations. All mammograms and other breast-related tests are read and interpreted by affiliated breast radiologists. Research repeatedly shows that diagnostic centers staffed with dedicated breast radiologists are better able to detect cancer in its earliest stages.
