Registration for the Third Annual OakBend Medical Center Run To Attack Poverty 5K is open! This family-focused, health-based event is expected to be the best 5K yet. The partnership between OakBend Medical Center and Attack Poverty began three years ago, and each year, the event continues to grow in popularity and participation. This year’s event organizer Rose Pickens expects another successful year. “We are anticipating 600 participants, as well as more than 200 volunteers to be a part of this year’s 5K and Kids K,” said Pickens.
It will be a day filled with food, fun, fitness, fellowship and family activities. “We believe the community comes together in an unprecedented way each year for the OakBend Medical Center Run To Attack Poverty!” said President and CEO of Attack Poverty Richard Logan. “We look forward to seeing you join us for a great day for the whole family.”
This year’s event will included a chip timed 5K run or walk beginning at 8 am and a Kids K starting promptly at 9:15 am, followed by a post-race party presented by Fort Bend Kia and a Health and Wellness Fair presented by GoodNews Foods. The Bib Sponsor is Expert Collision Center. Each participant will receive a completion award presented by Legacy Ford. Winners in each category will take home prizes from sponsors like Modify Watches, Brooks Running, Academy Sports and Chick-fil-A.
The Run To Attack Poverty has brought back several sponsors from previous years and has also attracted a new sponsors. Adding to the vendors is KRB Dentistry as the Presenting 5K Sponsor, and returning as the Presenting Kids K Sponsor is Texas Children’s Health Plan. Other sponsors include Texas Roadhouse, Frito Lay, Texas Running Company, Stafford Chiropractic Clinic, Chick-fil-A Greatwood/Rosenberg, YMCA Katy, Fiesta Mart, Veritas Strength, Robinson Tax & Insurance and Xtreme Danz.

The run will begin and end at the North Richmond Neighborhood Resource Center, located at 1305 Clay Street. Registration for the 5K is $35 May 1st through 15th, and day of race registration is $40. Registration for the Kids K is $15 May 1st through 15th and $20 on the day of the race.
