Mother’s Day, Birthdays and Cinco de Mayo

May is my favorite month of the year.  School gets out for my kids, and we celebrate Mother’s Day along with my son’s birthday – arguably my best Mother’s Day gift ever! In this issue, we have some great gift ideas from local retailers to spoil Mom, along with an adorable indoor garden idea that’s sure to make her smile.

I think of May as the official kick-off to summer fun, and what’s more fun than a family road trip? Yes, I know, the thought of packing up the kids and heading out to parts unknown in a confined space may seem daunting, but a family road trip can make for some good times that the kids will remember for years to come. Read about Chris Hill’s family road trip on page 29. He survived, so hope springs eternal!

Speaking of hope, for many, pain from joint issues can seem hopeless. Fortunately, there’s a new team of specialists providing hope – and treatment – for those suffering from joint pain. The team from the Memorial Hermann Joint Center at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital is the best of the best, and they are changing lives every day with advanced treatments. Read about Milton Hollis and his experience with the Joint Center Team on page 8.

May also brings us Cinco de Mayo, and in Brazos, one of the best Cinco de Mayo events celebrates 10 years of giving this month. Andres Novoa has hosted a Cinco de Mayor fundraiser benefitting Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels for the past nine years contributing over $225,000 to seniors in our community. This year’s event is Saturday, May 2nd at Andres’ restaurant La Cocina in Richmond.  Sombreros off to the La Cocina family for their commitment to our community’s seniors!

This May also brings to our family another type of senior – a senior in high school. Kassidi graduates this month, so there will be a mother’s tears as she embarks on a new stage of her life at the University of Texas in Austin. Kassidi has often said if there was one person in the world – past or present – she could meet, it would be Walt Disney. So for her and all of our graduating seniors, I encourage them to take Walt’s advice:  “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

Happy graduation to our seniors, and happy Mother’s Day to all of our Brazos moms!

Absolutely yours,
