FOOTFALL!

By Patti Parish-Kaminski, Publisher

Reveling in my Footfall décor. Sure, I made it up, but it’s happening from now until December 1.

I’ve often thought about the monotony of the seasons, especially as I have grown older and time seems to fly by like the speed of light.  It seems that we just get through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, skid into Valentine’s Day, hop into Easter, then all of the sudden, we are back to getting ready for turkey days with July 4th décor still up.

I’ve also begun to mark the passing of time by the holidays.  I feel like my life is a version of Steel Magnolias, jumping with warp speed from one occasion or holiday to the next.  So, since I’m already marking the passage of my life with festive celebrations, I have personally decided to create a brand-new season.  It’s called Footfall.

Now pay attention porch sitters, it’s Footfall with an “f” – not a “b.”  Footfall is the marriage of fall with football season, which, of course, means The University of Texas football season.  The University is burnt orange.  Fall is burnt orange. Both begin in the same month – September, which is literally fall.  Well, maybe not in Texas.  It’s a natural union, one that merits appropriate décor and celebration.

Now the University burnt orange is a symbol, it’s a thing.  It harkens back to 1885 and Miss Gussie Brown determining that the University’s team should have a color.  That original color was a bit brighter, but today, after over 100 years of tweaking, The University of Texas has its own Pantone color.  It’s PMS 159 should you wish to replicate it in your Footfall ornamentation.

I’m doing all the things for Footfall season: footballs, ghosts, autumn leaves, pumpkins, wreaths, University regalia.  I am locked and loaded.  My ring tone is even the theme from Friday Night Lights.  I know what you’re thinking; it should be The Eyes of Texas.  My bottle opener plays that catchy tune every time it is put into action, so I feel I’m covered.

I’ve even installed an extra television in the kitchen, lest I miss a second of a grid iron moment while traversing from the den to fill up my wine glass.  And yes, it’s a University wine glass purchased for me by my precious baby boy.

Footfall. It’s happening, and it will be happening until Christmas at Casa Kaminski.  Hook ‘em my lil’ pumpkin porch sitters!  See y’all next week – on the porch!
