Houston Methodist Sugar Land Patient Now Cancer-Free with Help of Fast Track Program

The Prescott family: Blaine, 7-year-old son Jonathan ,4-year-old daughter Claire and Caitlyn.

When 34-year-old Caitlyn Prescott found a lump in her breast, she knew she had to act quickly. For the past five years, Prescott had been proactively getting mammograms due to her family history and testing positive for the BRCA1 gene — a genetic mutation that significantly increases the risk of developing breast cancer.

“When I found the lump, I was terrified,” said Prescott. “But Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital moved so quickly. I had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy just hours after seeing my doctor. That speed made all the difference. I felt supported, informed and ready to fight.”

Houston Methodist Sugar Land is the only hospital in Fort Bend County offering a Fast Track Program, an expedited process that helps patients receive a diagnosis sooner and meet with an oncologist team within days, easing their anxiety during a stressful time. Patients who have undergone diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds can get a biopsy done within 24 hours through the program. Traditionally, these appointments can take several weeks to schedule, delaying care during a time when early detection is crucial.

“Time matters when it comes to cancer,” said Dr. Sindhu Nair, board-certified hematologistoncologist at Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at Sugar Land. “Our Fast Track Program eliminates the waiting period and gives patients peace of mind and a clear path forward.”

Prescott was declared cancer free earlier this year. She’s now undergoing a clinical trial in hopes of lowering her risk of recurrence and helping others in the future. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she’s sharing her story to encourage other women to prioritize their health and schedule their mammograms.
