When asked why being a leader is fulfilling to him, Chase said, “Coming in as a freshman, I never saw myself as a leader. But when I got here, I realized that I was born to lead. At Calvary, directing one thing means leading everything. To be the student who teachers come to when they need something gave me the responsibility to be the person in charge. Leadership in general has been my forte. I enjoy being a leader because I love to see what goes on behind the scenes and how things work. It has been fulfilling to coordinate projects and plan events and trips. When something runs smoothly and everyone enjoys it, you take special pride in knowing that you put it together.”

Chase is the choir president, drama club stage manager and donates his free time to Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS). He received a Youth in Philanthropy scholarship award and the Outstanding Aid student award, and he was a Persuasive Speaking district finalist all three years and state finalist the past two years. When asked what value he lives by, Chase said, “I live my life with one thing in mind: focus. For me, I always concentrate on bettering myself as a Christian, student, leader, athlete and person in general. I feel like if I’m not focusing, then I’m wasting my time. To me, if you’re motivated to do the right things, then you can’t go wrong.”

With over 500 volunteer hours, Chase is devoted to community service. He volunteers at the Houston Beacon, and in September, he became a confirmed Catholic at St. Laurence Catholic Church. Chase said what he will treasure most about his high school experience is, “The people I’ve met and grown with. Everyone has a different story. I have learned so much about how other people view life and where they’re from. I know someone from almost every walk of life and have learned so much about cultures and diversity. It has really taught me the importance of getting to know people beyond their name and face. The multiplicity of everyone I’ve met while in high school has made it such an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to meet more people in college.”

Chase has applied to the University of Miami, Louisiana State University, Tulane, Baylor, Southern Methodist University, Texas State University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He will major in Kinesiology and Athletic Training with a possible minor in Business. Congratulations on your leadership abilities and generosity Chase, and good luck as you take the next step in your life.
