City of Richmond Introduces New Fire Marshal

Christopher Legington.

After an extensive search, the City of Richmond has named Christopher Legington as Fire Marshal. Legington is a familiar face to Richmond; he began his career with the Richmond Fire Department, serving the department for six and a half years. He went on to work for the City of Rosenberg, Fort Bend County and most recently with the City of Stafford’s Fire Marshal’s Office as an inspector/investigator. As a Richmond firefighter, the experience propelled him to the science of fires and the fire’s aftermath, leading to his journey on becoming Fire Marshal.

Legington will now lead the Fire Marshal’s office to oversee fire and arson investigations, inspections and public safety campaigns. “Richmond is fortunate to have Christopher Legington return as our Fire Marshal. He knows the city; he knows many of our Fire Department members, our staff and our community. Most importantly, he brings a wealth of experience and an extensive background to our Fire Marshal’s office,” said Terri Vela, City of Richmond City Manager.

Legington served in the United States Air force for eight years, and in 2008, joined the Richmond Fire Department. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, a Master’s degree in Public Administration and various certifications, including Master Peace Officer, Master Arson Investigator, Master Fire Inspector, and Plans Examiner.
